Suprisingly . . it's hard to believe that a person who is blind could take a quality nature photographs, but Alison Bartlett, 51, has proven that it can be done! The New Milton, England. Alison, a former horse riding instructor, begin to lost her sight in 1979 because of diabetes and went on completely in 1992. But she retain her passion for photography and wildlife and continue her hobby by honing in on the sounds around her.

" I learned to listen for sounds of birds and animals," she says. Now her hearing is so acute she can hear squirrels eating nuts.
" I could hear the bird's wings flapping I have two squirrel in the garden and I've given them names and can hear them eating and arguing each other." Alison, regularly goes out into the local countryside with fellow photographer Jenny Gilleland who helps her.
She said: " Jenny tells me where the animals are and says thing like 'birds at two o'clock' - she will give me approximate distance and I simply aim, focus and shoot!

Of course others have to tells her whether the picture are any good and it hurts that she's unable to see them. But the pleasure it gives other is reward enough and Alison is delighted that she taken enough to hold a small exhibition. " If it encourages other people continue their hobbies then it is worth it.

Your body has a signature odor, just as your fingers have unique prints. And that "eau d'you" remains even if you change what you eat, a new study finds.

Mammals such as mice and humans are known to have unique, genetically determined body odors, called odortypes, which act something like olfactory nametags, helping distinguish to individuals from one another, even pick out a mate.

An individual's odortype is determined in part by genes in a genomic region called the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), which plays a role in the immune system and are found in most vertebrates.

Odortype information is transmitted through body fluids such as sweat and urine, which contain numerous airborne chemical molecules known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), many of which give off an odor, as anyone who's been in a gym locker room probably knows.

Meanwhile, the type of food an animal or person eats can influence their body odor; garlic, when consumed in large amounts, is a well-known example.

So researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia looked into the question of whether or not changes in diet could possibly get in the way of one's genetically determined odortype and thus mask aromatic identity.

In behavioral tests, "sensor" mice were trained to use their sense of smell to choose between pairs of test mice that differed in MHC genes, diet or both. Researchers used chemical analyses to examine the array of VOC's in urine of mice having different MHC backgrounds and fed different diets.

The results, detailed in the October 31 issue of the online journal PLoS ONE, indicate that genetically determined odortypes persisted regardless of what the mice ate, even though dietary changes did strongly influence the odor profiles of individual mice. Both the sensor mice and chemical analyses could still detect the underlying odortypes.

"The findings using this animal model support the proposition that body odors provide a consistent 'odorprint' analogous to a fingerprint or DNA sample," said study author Gary Beauchamp, a behavioral biologist at Monell.

"These findings indicate that biologically based odorprints, like fingerprints, could be a reliable way to identify individuals," said lead author Jae Kwak, a Monell chemist. "If this can be shown to be the case for humans, it opens the possibility that devices can be developed to detect individual odorprints in humans."

Beauchamp added that similar methods are being used to look for body odor differences associated with disease. Such research could lead to the development of electronic sensors for early detection and rapid diagnosis of disorders such as skin and lung cancer and certain viral diseases.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off! MORAL :

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Condom Pharmacist

A young man goes into a pharmacy and asks the pharmacist "Hello, could you give me condom. My girlfriend has invited me for dinner and I think she is expecting something from me!"

The pharmacist gives him the condom; and as the young man is going out, he returns and tells him: "Give me another condom because my girlfriend's sister is very cute too. She always crosses her legs in a provocative manner when she sees me and I think she expects something from me too."

The pharmacist gives him a second condom; and as the boy is leaving he turns back and says: After all, give me one more condom because my girlfriend's mom is still pretty cute and when she sees me she always makes allusions...and since she invited me for dinner, I think she is expecting something from me!!

During dinner, the young man is sitting with his girlfriend on his left, the sister on his right and the mom facing him. When the dad gets there, the boy lowers his head and starts praying: "Dear Lord,bless this dinner...thank you for all you give us...!!!"

A minute later the boy is still praying: "Thank you Lord for your kindness..."

Ten minutes go on and the boy is still praying, keeping his head down. The others look at each other surprised and his girlfriend even more than the others. She gets close to the boy and tells him in his ear: "I didn't know you were so religious!!!"

A jobless man applied for the position of "office boy" at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. "You are employed."

He said." Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start."
The man replied "But I don't have a computer, neither an email. "I'm sorry", said the HR manager, "If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job."

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10Kg tomato crate.
He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the Operation three times, and returned home with $60. The man realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.
5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US. He started to plan his family's future. He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email. The man replied, "I don't have an email". The broker answered curiously, "You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!!"
The man thought for a while and replied, "Yes, I'd be an office boy at Microsoft!"

This is a true case of a Japanese man from Gifu prefecture who complains incessantly about a persistent headache. Mr. Shota Fujiwara loves his sashimi and sushi very much to the extent of trying to get them as 'alive and fresh' as can be for his insatiable appetite. He develops a severe headache for the past 3 years and has put cut off as migraine and stress from work. It was only when he started losing his psychomotor skills that he seeks medical help. A brain scan and x-ray reveals little however.

But upon closer inspection by a specialist on his scalp, the doctor noticed small movements beneath his skin. It was then that the doctor did a local anesthetic to his scalp and discovered the cause when tiny worms crawled out.

Remember, tapeworms and roundworms and their eggs which abound in all fishes fresh or salt fishes can only be killed by thorough cooking and/or freezing the fish to between 4 deg C - 0 deg C. The eggs of these parasites can only be killed if it is cooked or frozen to the said temperatures for a week or more. Think twice about that raw dish next time...or you might get a headache!

We supposed to depart from Sutera Habour Jetty at 9am but instead delayed to 11am coz of unexpected situation -refer tayar, ada tu kawan macam mo jadi lion king suda, trus kana blanja breakfast sana Double Six food court..hihi..tQ la for the breakfast...kebetulan sa inda sempat breakfast. Snorkel Bluewater

You don't have to be certified to be a snorkeler. The reason for this is you only have a mask, snorkel, and fins. But let me inform you of some very important facts. You still have the same responsibilities to yourself and your diving partner, that a certified scuba diver has. Mental awareness and physical fitness are the most important attributes concerning this sport.

If your a good swimmer and swim daily or weekly, your legs are probably in pretty good shape. Although when you equip yourself with the snorkeling gear you need, you might find your legs are not in as good of shape as you thought. The first time you put on a pair of fins and swim long enough to learn to use them, you will experience next day soreness and possibly cramps. Too avoid this pain in the future, here are some simple leg exercises you might want to try.

Squats: Holding on to something, like a countertop for balance. Standing upright with legs spread shoulder length apart, bend down slowly, but not all the way. Return to starting position. You will get more effect with this exercise if you do not lock out your knees at the standing position. This puts more strain on the leg muscles, and that's what we want. As you are executing these movements, breath deeply in and out several times during the repetition to expand the lungs, this is called oxygen loading. This will help with the snorkeling part. And don't smoke.

Lunges:

At a standing position put your right foot out in front of you about three (3) feet.

Arms on your hips, keep your left leg straight and bend your right knee, and lower your body toward the floor. Return to the starting position and then lead with your left foot. These two exercises puts emphasis on the quadriceps, buttocks, lower back and secondary stress on the hamstrings, upper back and abdominal muscles. Do these movements for 2 sets at 10 to 15 repetitions using nothing but your body weight. This will tone your muscles for strength and agility.

Calf Raises: This exercise puts emphasis on the calf muscles and secondary stress on your ankles and foot muscles. The exercise works OK standing flat on the floor, but better if you have something to stand on, like a 2 by 4 a couple of feet long. If standing on a 2 By 4, position your feet shoulder length apart and let your arch and heel hang off the edge, and lower your heel down as far as you can to touch the floor, raising up all the way as far as you can. While doing this movement, tighten your calf muscles as much as possible throughout the exercise. Now next take a seat in a chair and position your feet on the 2 by 4 the same as the standing calf raise. Raise and lower your heel. Doing 2 sets and 10 to 15 reps. These three exercises will strengthen your legs for working your fins.

Once you have your gear, you'll want to practice in a pool if one is available, if not, go to a lake and practice just off shore till you get the hang of it. Getting used to the snorkel is important while in shallow water. Breathing is more difficult with a mask on, and having a mouthpiece in your mouth. Practice this until you become comfortable, before going to deep water. Then if you have a boat, you can practice your dive. One dive I like is the feet first dive. Holding your mask tight against your face, jump into the water, try to remain vertical, raise your arms above your head sweeping them upward to push yourself lower. To rotate your body to a horizontal position, pull your knees to your chest, lower your head, and this will put you in a swimming position.

If you experience water in your mask, clearing is simple. If your above the surface, simply pull forward on the front of your mask and lifting up, this will let any water drain out the bottom. Some masks have a built in purge valve making it simple to clear your mask if underwater. The valve lets water out but not in. To clear a mask when underwater, blow out your nose while the mask is on.

Try the exercises and the few tips I offered on snorkeling, and you will be fine. Just remember to always have a buddy with you in case of problems, use good judgement and exercise safety above all.

I hope some of the subjects I've covered will shed some light on your quest to become the best snorkel diver you can be. It's never to late to pursue the beautiful art of snorkeling. It's for the young and old. Just make sure you have the physical requirements and the ability to make sound judgement, and always take a buddy with you to dive. Seorang koboi pulang dari sebuah kota dengan menunggang kudanya melewati gurun. Dia dikejutkan oleh seekor ular yang menghalangi jalannya, lalu Si Koboi turun dengan pisau ditangannya, ketika ditangkap ular itu untuk dibunuh Si Ular berkata :

Si Ular : "Jangan Bunuh Saya, Saya Adalah Seorang Pari-Pari".

Si Koboi Terkejut, Dan Masih Ragu, Lalu Bertanya :

Si Koboi : "Jika Kamu Pari-Pari Apa Yang Saya Minta Akan Dikabulkan ?". Tanya Si Koboi.
Si Ular : "Jika Kamu Tidak Percaya Lepaskan Dulu Saya, Dan Apa Permintaan Kamu Wahai Koboi?". Kata Si Ular Itu.

PUTRAJAYA, June 4 (Bernama) -- Petrol and diesel prices will go up by 78 sen and RM1 per litre respectively at midnight tonight, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced Wednesday.

The prime minister said the new price for petrol at the pump would be RM2.70 per litre and diesel, RM2.58 per litre.

Abdullah told a news conference at his office the Cabinet had agreed on a cash rebate for Malaysian owners of private cars and motorcycles to ease the burden of the rise in the fuel prices.

"A cash rebate of RM625 per year will be given to owners of private cars of engine capacity of up to 2,000 cc and pick-up trucks and jeeps of up to 2,500 cc.

"Owners of private motorcycles of engine capacity of up to 250 cc will be paid a cash rebate of RM150 per year," he said.

The prime minister said the cash rebate would be given to the owners of the cars and motorcycles when they paid or renewed their road tax.

He said the cash rebate would cover cars and motorcycles for which the road tax was renewable between April 1 2008 and March 31 2009.

The prime minister said the cash rebate would be given in the form of money order at post offices nationwide beginning July 1 2008.

The increase in prices announced Wednesday is the highest ever. On Feb 28 2006, the prices of petrol and diesel went up by 30 sen, with petrol costing RM1.92 per litre and diesel RM1.58 per litre.

The announcement Wednesday is part of the government's new fuel subsidy scheme mechanism which seeks to reduce the fuel subsidy amounting to an annual RM53 billion.

The government's move to float the fuel price in accordance with the global market price still makes Malaysia one of the countries with low prices for fuel in this region.

The new prices of petrol and diesel are far lower than the RM5.20 and RM4.22 for the fuels, respectively, in Singapore which has floated the prices as well.

The prime minister said the Cabinet had decided that the owners of cars and motorcycles excluded from the cash-rebate category would have their vehicle road tax reduced according to the following rate effective June 1 2008:

* Owners of private petrol and diesel vehicles with engine capacity of more than 2,000 cc will have the road tax reduced by RM200.

* Owners of private motorcycles of engine capacity of more than 250 cc will have the road tax reduced by RM50, subject to a minimum road tax of RM2.

Abdullah also said that there would be no change in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas for vehicles (NGV), with LPG at RM1.75 per kg and NGV at 63.5 sen per litre.

He also announced the streamlining of the diesel subsidy for approved transportation companies, vessel transportation companies and fishermen.

"Currently, transportation operators, fishermen and vessel owners enjoy different subsidies for diesel. Fishermen buy diesel for RM1 per litre and vessel owners buy at RM1.20 per litre.

"The Cabinet has agreed to streamline the price of diesel (for these categories of consumers) at RM1.43 per litre effective Thursday, June 5 2008.

This price would not jeopardise transportation companies under the fleet card system because they will continue to enjoy the petrol and diesel subsidies at this price," he said.

He said the government had agreed to pay in cash a portion of the difference in the old and new prices to fishermen and vessel owners, as follows:

* Payment of RM200 cash monthly to every owner and crew of Malaysian-owned vessels registered with the Fisheries Department.

* Payment of incentives to vessel owners at the rate of 10 sen per kg of fish landed by approved fishing vessels at fish landing centres in the country.

"The payments will be managed by the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority. The Cabinet has also decided that operators of river passenger boats will be given cash payment of 10 sen per litre based on an approved quota," he said.

Abdullah also announced that beginning July 1 2008, the prices of gas supplied by Petronas in Peninsular Malaysia will be changed as follows:

* For the electricity sector, the price will be increased from RM6.40 per mmBtu (Million British Thermal Units) to RM14.31 per mmBtu.

* For industrial sector consumers using less than 2 mmscfd (Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day), the price fixed by Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd (GMSB) will be raised from RM9.40 per mmBtu to RM24.54 per mmBtu.

* For industrial sector consumers using more than 2 mmscfd, the price of gas supplied by Petronas will be raised from RM11.32 per mmBtu to RM32.56 per mmBtu.

"However, special assistance will be given to consumers of GMSB gas, i.e. for the category of small and medium enterprises. These consumers will enjoy a lower gas tariff rate.

"In line with the sustainable energy policy, Petronas will reduce the subsidy for the electricity sector progressively in line with the current market price, up to the 15th year, when the level reaches the market price," he said.

At the same time, he said, the subsidy for the industrial sector would be reduced progressively in line with the market price, up to the 11th year, when the level reaches the market price.

Abdullah said that in announcing the new electricity tariff, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) would have to bear the increase in the price of coal in the global market.

He said that with the restructuring of the gas subsidy and increase in the price of coal, the government had approved a new electricity tariff structure to enable TNB absorb the fuel cost for gas and coal.

The new tariff structure, effective July 1 2008, would apply to all domestic, commercial and industrial consumers in Peninsular Malaysia only and a new structure would be announced soon for those in Sabah and Sarawak, he said.

In line with the government's desire to safeguard as much as possible the welfare of the low- and medium-income group, the new electricity tariff structure would not affect consumers who use less than 200 kilowatt hour (kwh) per month, with the electricity bill estimated to be RM43.60.

"This means that 59 per cent of households in Peninsular Malaysia will pay the same amount for electricity so long as they maintain their level of usage," he said.

Commercial and industrial users will see a rise of 26 per cent in their electricity bills, he added.

"However, retailers, shopkeepers and small restaurant operators as well as industrial users such as cottage enterprises using not more than 200 kwh a month will only see a rise of 18 per cent," he said.

Touching on the contribution of independent power producers (IPPs) and palm oil producers towards easing the financial burden on the people, Abdullah said the IPPs were expected to generate more profits from market returns.

"In line with the restructuring of the gas subsidy, the government has decided to implement provisions of the Windfall Profit Levy Act 1998 on IPPs in garnering their contribution to meet the rise in the cost of fuel to generate electricity.

"The quantum of the levy is 30 per cent of the excess return on assets at the threshold value exceeding nine per cent based on their audited accounts," he said.

The prime minister said palm oil producers had recorded increased profits following the high price for palm oil in the global market.

As such, he said, the Cabinet had agreed to abolish the Cooking Oil Stabilisation Scheme (COSS) effective July 1 2008 and implement provisions of the Windfall Profit Levy Act 1998 on palm oil producers.

The levy would be imposed at the stage of the millers:

* For Sabah and Sarawak, it is 7.5 per cent for every tonne of crude palm oil (CPO) which exceeds RM2,000.

* For Peninsular Malaysia, it is 15 per cent for every tonne of CPO which exceeds RM2,000.

"Although the COSS is abolished, the price of cooking oil will remain the same because the returns from the new levy will be used to subsidise the price of cooking oil.

"The rate of levy for palm oil producers in Sabah and Sarawak is lower (than in Peninsular Malaysia) because they have to pay tax also to the state governments," Abdullah said.

It's great as a good night kiss ("Did you get home safely?"). It's great to reconfirm things ("What time are we meeting on Sunday? Let me know.") It's great for when you want to lob in a quick message to someone when they can't talk on the phone ("Can't wait to see you tonight.")

Texting is all about short conversations, and can be useful and fun in the dating context. Texting used in certain other ways, however, gets ugly within the dating context -- and can really get you into trouble. Some of these uses should be avoided because they can cause unintended misunderstandings, while others are simply bad manners or outright rude!

So, here are seven of the biggest misuses of texting that you should avoid in the dating context:

1. Save the Jokes. One drawback of texting (as with any written form of communication) is that it is sometimes difficult to convey the tone of what you write. Words are often misinterpreted. You can text somebody something that you think is a joke, and they don't read it that way. This will get you into trouble, because they may never call you back and give you the opportunity to straighten out the misunderstanding. So if you want to tell someone you're dating a joke, it's best to save it and tell it to them in person.

Once you've texted back and forth a few times, and unless one of you is in a Turkish prison being tortured by a not-so-friendly cell mate, you need to pick up the phone and have a real conversation. You will not discover whether you share a true connection with someone by conversing with them via text message. Also, as two adults, you need to have an actual voice-to-voice conversation. So go ahead and exchange a few texts, but then get yourself on the phone!

6. You May Not Get an Answer. Just because you texted someone, doesn't mean they're going to respond. This is another issue with using text messaging as your main communication method -- especially in the dating context. You're texting back and forth with someone, then you send something to them and they don't respond. They may have gotten on the phone. They may have fallen asleep. They may have gone into a meeting. Because texting is so impersonal, though, you don't know what happened to them.

7. You Are Left Wondering. Let's say you texted someone on a Tuesday, they responded to your text, you texted them again and... now it's Friday and they still haven't texted back. What does someone do in that situation? They may not be keeping a text count like you are. They may have forgotten to text you back because they got on a long phone call or got caught up in some work, and your text may have gotten lost. Let me ask you a question? Do you answer every email that comes in... or does one sometimes get buried and go unanswered? If you haven't heard from someone in a few days, pick up the phone and call them. KUALA LUMPUR: All it takes is one fruit or 100ml of its juice and the ordinarily harmless star fruit becomes poison in a matter of hours for kidney patients.

University Malaya Medical Centre consultant nephrologist Prof Dr Tan Si-Yen said this was what had happened to Tang Gon Seang in China. The 66-year-old, who has been suffering from a kidney ailment, was in Shenzhen visiting his son when fell into a coma on March 29 after eating star fruits.

"Star fruits contain a neurotoxin which is not present in other fruits. It affects the brain and nerves. In healthy persons, the kidneys filter it out.

"In kidney patients, it cannot be removed and worsens their condition," he said.

More than 10 other patients in the hospital suffered the same condition after consuming star fruits. Two of them died. After discovering the star fruit connection, Tang has been undergoing dialysis. His brother-in-law Teoh Thian Lye, 55, confirmed that Tang had been on medication for kidney problems for three years. The family sought the help of MCA Public Complaints and Services Department head Datuk Michael Chong to transfer Tang back to Malaysia as the family could not afford the hospital bill of RM1,000-RM2,000 a day in intensive care.

According to Dr Tan, there was little awareness of this relatively new discovery and no local cases yet.

"The public must be alert to reactions to star fruit. Look out for initial symptoms including hiccups, numbness and weakness, and neurological symptoms including confusion, agitation and epileptic fits," he said.

"The risk of death is high," he added.

MARGARET Tatcher famously needed just four hours sleep a night during her time as Prime Minister of Britain.But her ability to run the country on such little rest may have been due to her genes rather than her iron will. Scientists have identified a single gene mutation which they say explains why some people can function normally despite sleeping far less then the rest of us.

But they also warn there may be a price to pay – being born to sleep less seems to increase the likelihood of an early death. A study at Wisconsin University Medical School in the US looked at the sleeping habits of fruits flies, which share many of the same genes as humans and have similar sleep patterns.

Like us, most fruit flies sleep for between 6 to 12 hours a night. They sleep less as they age and, when deprived of a good night’s rest, tend to sleep longer and more deeply the next night to make up for it. Previous research has also shown that caffeine has the same stimulating effect on the flies as it does on humans, potentially disrupting their sleep.Analysis using electroencephalogram machines also showed evidence in flies of the same electrical changes that occur in human brains as we switch between sleep and waking.

Lead author Dr Chiara Cirelli said most people sleep for 7 to 8 hours a night, if they have much less, their ability to go about their lives and perform simple, everyday tasks suffers.
However, a few are able to cope perfectly adequately on just 3 to 4 hours sleep a night and studies suggest this traits may run in families.

What's behind the current food shortages: Is the increase in ethanol production to blame or is hoarding the problem?

As world rice prices set new records daily, the World Bank has warned that the crisis could further impoverish 100 million people (BusinessWeek.com, 4/25/08). What's behind the current food crisis and what can the world do to dig itself out from the problems? Here are a few of the key issues to consider.

Has the increase in corn cultivation for producing ethanol in the U.S. and Europe affected the price of rice?

Yes, indirectly. As farmers in the U.S. and Europe plant more corn in place of wheat to produce ethanol, the price of wheat has risen as supplies have tightened. Faced with higher wheat prices, people are substituting rice in their diets, particularly so in Africa. And, of course, the demand for ethanol as an alternative fuel is linked directly to the soaring price of oil. Moreover, the cost of rice production has increased significantly because fertilizer, transportation, and processing costs have shot up along with skyrocketing oil prices.

And how did that spill over to Asia?

India and Vietnam, the world's second- and third-largest rice exporters, saw the prices of soybeans, wheat, and corn skyrocket. In an attempt to keep a lid on domestic inflation, in late March both countries announced export restrictions. The idea was to ensure plenty of domestic stock of rice so prices wouldn't rise. But it backfired, because as soon as international prices shot up domestic traders jacked prices up at home anyway, leading to panic buying and hoarding.

But is there a worldwide shortage of rice?

No, there is an artificial shortage because of measures taken by governments of rice-exporting nations.

Who is doing the hoarding?

It's happening at several levels throughout the supply chain by traders, millers, wholesalers, and retailers. The appeal of rice for speculators is that it is easy to store and transport. However, this kind of speculation is extremely risky because the futures market in rice is not very liquid, so it it's difficult to hedge one's bets. There are 15 different benchmark prices for rice depending on quality, and the market is far from transparent.

How is Thailand, the world's biggest rice exporter, faring in all this?

At first blush, Thailand appears to be sitting pretty. The spot price of Thai fragrant rice is about $1,100 per ton, compared with about $320 at the end of last year. However, exporters make their contracts several months in advance of delivery, and Thai Rice Exporters Assn. President Chookiat Ophaswongse says several exporters face huge losses because they are buying rice from traders at today's prices but delivering that rice to buyers at prices from early in the year, before the latest price spiral started. Some exporters have renegotiated, others have defaulted on their deliveries. Chookiat says higher prices will cause exports to fall 20%-25% in the second quarter, to about 780,000 tons per month, compared with the first three months of the year.

If this is mostly speculation and government interference in trade, will prices fall eventually?

Up to a point. Once the price spikes, speculators and hoarders will try to unload their stocks, pushing prices down, but there is a lot of pent-up demand from major importers such as Iran and Indonesia that have not purchased any international rice in 2008.

Why don't farmers just plant more rice?

Because they can't. The majority of rice farmers consume most of what they grow already and plant rice on every available acre of land. What's more, rapid urbanization and, in China, desertification has led to a decrease in the available supply of farmland. The increase in biofuels has encouraged palm oil plantations instead of rice paddies. Also, as incomes rise in the region, people substitute more meat for rice in their diet, which requires more land to raise livestock and produce the same amount of calories.

Is a second "green revolution" possible?

In theory, yes, but it will take time. International Rice Research Institute director general Robert Zeigler says the time lag between new biotech discoveries and implementation on the farm is about 15 years. He also notes there has been underinvestment in rice research by multinational companies because it's primarily grown by poor farmers in developing countries.

Can't planting genetically modified rice help increase supply?

Yes, many varieties are readily available, but the problem is convincing the farmers to buy the seeds. Because rice is self-pollinating, farmers are accustomed to keeping their own seeds. Although hybrid rice is also self-seeding, each succeeding generation is less productive, and many farmers would rather save their cash than buy new seeds every year. "[Genetically modified seed] should be an important part of our toolbox, but it isn't a silver bullet," Zeigler says.

Who is getting hurt the most by soaring food costs?

The poorest populations in the world, for whom rice is a staple and spend the greatest percentage of their incomes on food. The World Bank estimates that 100 million people are at risk. Sub-Saharan African nations are particularly vulnerable because they import 40%-50% of their rice needs. But only 8% of the world's rice output is traded, so most rice-consuming countries actually feed themselves.

What about relief agencies. Can they obtain the food they need?

In theory, yes, the supply is available since much of relief food is actually sourced locally, so the drop in rice available for export has no direct impact. But since prices have risen so much, their budgets are stretched to the limit. On May 1, the World Food Program in Cambodia will stop buying locally produced rice, which it had been using to provide breakfast to 450,000 needy school children. It's abandoning the program because of spiraling prices. And the government of the Philippines, which is the world's largest rice importer, has only been able to buy part of the rice it imports because exporters have not responded to its tenders in full.

What short-term methods could boost supply?

More investment in irrigation. Better storage methods and low-cost devices such as moisture meters, which could help farmers avoid wastage. Also, greater use of hermetically sealed bags would prevent infestation.

The Hummer H4 or HX is a proposed SUV reportedly in development by the General Motors Hummer division. GM may have a finished model to introduce to the market in 2008 or 2009. It is expected to compete with the Jeep Wrangler for market share. The development on new Hummer models so far has been towards SUVs that are more suitable for city traffic, a development which culminated in the Hummer H3. However, the H4 is likely to be more basic, and the focus is once again on off-road ability.

The H4 will likely be smaller than the three previous Hummers (including the H1) and is reportedly conceived to compete with the Jeep Wrangler. The design and look of the H4 has not yet been decided as GM is still deciding on what platform to build the H4. 1. Networking means meeting as many people as you can.
If possessing a huge stack of business cards or having met every business person in your city was a ticket to riches, this might be true. But it's not. Networking gives you a chance to meet new people, but quality trumps quantity in human relationships, every time.

2. Networking means telling people about your business whenever you get a chance.
There's nothing wrong with letting the folks at your gym, at your place of worship, and at your book club know what you do for a living. But people will quickly forget the details of your professional life. What they'll remember is you -- if you approach them with a desire to learn about them, as well.

3. Networking is hard work.
It may be that you're working too hard. Networking happens naturally if you introduce yourself to people, stay in touch with people you've met, and think, in every interaction, "How could I help this person?"

4. Networking should start when you're job-hunting.
If you get the call that you've been selected to compete on "American Idol," it's too late to start an exercise program or go on a diet. When you're out of work, it's a bit late in the game to start networking toward your next jobs. A stealth aircraft is an aircraft that uses stealth technology to make it harder to be detected by radar and other means than conventional aircraft by employing a combination of features to reduce visibility in the visual, audio, infrared and radio frequency (RF) spectrum. Well known examples include the United States' F-117 Nighthawk (1980s-2008) and the modern F-22 Raptor fighter.

While no aircraft is totally invisible to radar, stealth aircraft effectively limit current conventional radar's abilities to detect or track them effectively enough to prevent an attack. Stealth is accomplished by using a complex design philosophy to reduce the ability of an opponent's sensors to detect, track and attack an aircraft.

The F-22 is a multi-role air-superiority fighter with improved capability over current Air Force aircraft. From the inception of the battle, the F-22’s primary objective will be to establish air superiority through the conduct of counter-air operations. The F-22 also has significant air-to-surface capability.

Features

First look/first shot/first kill in all environments. A combination of improved sensor capability, integrated avionics, improved situational awareness, and improved weapons provides first-kill opportunity against the threat. The F-22 possesses a sophisticated sensor suite that allows the pilot to track, identify and shoot the threat before it detects the F-22. Significant advances in cockpit design and avionics fusion improve the pilot’s situational awareness. Advanced avionics technologies allow the F-22 sensors to gather, integrate and display essential information in the most useful format to the pilot.

Improved reliability and maintainability. To ensure operational flexibility, the F-22 has better reliability and maintainability than any military fighter in history. An F-22 squadron will require less than half as much airlift as an F-15 squadron to deploy. Increased F-22 reliability and maintainability pays off in less manpower required to fix the aircraft and the ability to operate more efficiently.

Increased lethality and survivability. The F-22's characteristics provide a synergistic effect that ensures F-22 lethality against an advanced air threat. The combination of stealth, integrated avionics and supercruise drastically shrinks surface-to-air engagement envelopes and minimizes enemy capabilities to engage and shoot at the F-22.

Air-to-surface capability. The F-22 has a secondary role to attack surface targets. The aircraft will be capable of carrying two 1,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) internally and will use on-board avionics for navigation and weapons delivery support.

Some info: Officially, the fastest plane ever built is the SR-71 Blackbird, built by Lockheed. It was capable of speeds in excess of 3.3 mach (more than 2,200 miles per hour). It was decommissioned in 1998. No one knows for sure whether a faster plane exists, but many people suspect that the SR-91 -- if it actually exists -- is capable of speeds in 5-mach range, although speeds like that would likely take place outside the Earth's atmosphere.

The fastest known jet airplane is the SR-71 Blackbird. However faster aircraft have been flown by the U.S. military. But they are rocket powered and experimental which does not fall into your question of the fastest "jet" airplane. Also FYI the fastest commercial airliner is the Boeing 747-400.

Nick Veasey used a lead-lined studio to create x-ray photographs of a remarkable array of objects, from fruits and flowers to humans, vehicles and buildings.

Hidden beauty: A female foot perched in a towering stiletto-heeled shoe

Among the images are skeletal hands typing over the delicate circuitry of a laptop computer, a woman's foot perched in a towering stiletto-heeled shoe, the bones sharply angled, and an electric chair, wreathed in sinister coils of wire.

One picture in the book, entitled X-Ray: See Through the World Around You, shows a five-storey office block with skeletal people hard at work, typing at desks, reading papers - and trying to fix a photocopier.

13 Apr, 08 : I went fishing with my uncle at Lok Nunuk (pertama kali sa sampai ni tempat) also known as Ambong in the District of Kota Belud. It takes about 1 ½ hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. After we reached the beach, we have to walk another 25 minute to get to the fishing spot (kana jungle trekking naik bukit) it was a rocky spot (takapus juga klu yg jarang bersukan).

Suddenly around 4pm...besides the fish that I caught. I manage to catch something else . . . Watersprout Tornado !!!

Strange New Fish May See Like Human

While diving in the harbor of a small island in Indonesia recently, husband and wife Buck and Fitrie Randolph, with dive guide Toby Fadirsyair, found a strange fish and took some pictures. A specimen similar, was initially found 15 years ago by Toby, the most highly rated dive guide at Maluku Divers.

The oldball creature looks like an anglerfish, but different. Its eyes, unlike those of nearly all fish, point forward and may allow the fish to gauge depth the way humans do. The flat fish has tan- and peach-colored stripes and rippling folds of skin that obscure its fins. About the size of a human fist, it is soft and pliable enough to slip into narrow crevices of coral reefs - perhaps why it's never been seen before.

The divers could not find the fish in any reference books, so they consulted an expert.

"As soon as I saw the photo I knew it had to be an anglerfish because of the leglike pectoral fins on its sides," said University of Washington fish expert Ted Pietsch today. "Only anglerfishes have crooked, leglike structures that they use to walk or crawl along the seafloor or other surfaces."

Anglerfishes are found the world over and typically have lures growing from their foreheads that they wave or wiggle to attract prey.

The newly found fish has no lures so it burrows into a reef to find food.

"Several times I saw these fish work themselves through an opening that seemed much smaller than the fish, sometimes taking a minute or more to get all the way through," says David Hall, an underwater natural history photographer who was able to dive with Maluku Divers and take additional photos of the newfound creature. "They must have pretty tough skin to keep from being scraped and cut, but there is no evidence of superficial injury or scars in my photographs."

With its unusual flattened face, the fish's eyes appear to be directed forward, something Pietsch says he's never seen in 40 years studying the structure, classification and habits of fishes. Most fishes have eyes on either side of their head so that each eye sees something different. Only very few fishes have eyes whose radius of vision overlaps in front, providing binocular vision, a special attribute well developed in humans that provides the ability to accurately judge distance.

Whether the new fish represent a new family will entail DNA testing and a close examination of a specimen, says Pietsch, whose anglerfish work is currently funded by the National Science Foundation. Scientists have already described 18 different families of anglerfishes and this is probably a 19th, Pietsch says. Families are large groupings; for example, all dog species belong to the larger family that includes wolves, coyotes and hyenas.

Travelling can be great fun, whether it is done alone, with family or friends. One of the many highlight of travelling is of course, the sights and sounds that we see and experience of somewhere new and foreign. While sounds cannot possibly be physically recorded, sights most definitely hold the key trigger to these wonderful memories. Pictures paints a thousand words, but what happens when a slight error in your photo’s composition mars what should be picture perfect? So what’s the key to taking good travelling photos?

Composition

Composition basically refers to the angle of which a picture is taken. A slight change to its position may alter tremendously which will produce completely different (and perhaps better) results. For instance, when taking a picture of the ocean, instead of instinctively positioning the horizon in the centre, try concentrating more on the water and only showing a tiny bit of the sky. Also, if there is an object within your picture frame, try positioning it from centre to the left. You will soon see a vast difference to your picture!

Potraits

If you have several camera lenses to play with, tele-lenses are best for portraits. However, if you have a simple point and shoot camera, don’t fret - you can still take a good picture. Firstly, get close - after all, the face is the most important part of your subject. Focus on capturing the emotions of your subject. This will prove to be much more impressive and personal as a close-up. Showing the whole body rarely is necessary.

Night Shooting

When shooting at night, it is advisable to use a tripod and the self timer. A flashlight can be very handy for checking the setup and changing film etc. If you do not have a tripod with you, try to use an elevated object like a wall instead. Alternatively, you can also opt for a slow synch option, which is readily available in most digital point and shoot cameras. Do note that you would still need a pair of steady hands for the shot.

Manners

When travelling to somewhere foreign, we should always be respectful of its culture. If you’re intending to take a picture of the locals, do ask permission first before pointing and shooting. Some cultures may find it offensive to have their picture taken. If you do not speak the language, learning a few phrases might help!

Suatu hari, seorang Professor yang sedang membuat kajian tentang lautan menumpang sebuah sampan. Pendayung sampan itu seorang tua yang begitu pendiam. Professor memang mencari pendayung sampan
yang pendiam agar tidak banyak bertanya ketika dia sedang membuat kajian. Dengan begitu tekun Professor itu membuat kajian.

Diambilnya sedikit air laut dengan tabung uji kemudian digoyang-goyang; selepas itu dia menulis sesuatu di dalam buku. Berjam-jam lamanya Professor itu membuat kajian dengan tekun sekali. Pendayung sampan itu mendongak ke langit.Berdasarkan pengalamannya dia berkata di dalam
hati, "Hmm. Hari nak hujan."

"OK, semua sudah siap, mari kita balik ke darat" kata Professor itu.

Professor itu masih lagi bertanya. Seperti tadi, pendayung sampan itu hanya menggelengkan kepala. "Kalau begini, kasihan, kamu sudah kehilangan 75 peratus dari usia kamu.

Malang sungguh nasibkamu, semuanya tak tahu.Seluruh usia kamu dihabiskan dengan mendayung sampan." Kata Professor itu dengan nada mengejek dan angkuh. Pendayung sampan itu hanya berdiam diri. Selang beberapa minit kemudian, tiba-tiba hujan turun. Tiba-tiba saja datang ombak besar. Sampan itu dilambung ombak besar dan terbalik.Professor dan pendayung sampan terpelanting. Sempat pula
pendayung sampan itu bertanya, "Kamu tahu berenang?" Professor itu menggelengkan kepala. "Kalau macam ini, kamu dah kehilangan 100 peratus nyawa kamu." Kata pendayung sampan itu sambil berenang menuju ke pantai.

Morale of the Story:

Dalam hidup ini IQ yang tinggi belum tentu boleh menjamin kehidupan.
Tak guna kita pandai dan tahu banyak perkara jika tak tahu perkara-perkara penting dalam hidup. Adakalanya orang yang kita sangka bodoh itu rupanya lebih berjaya dari kita. Dia mungkin bodoh dalam bidang yang tidak ada kena mengena dengan kerjayanya, tetapi "MASTER" dalam bidang yang diceburi.

Hidup ini singkat. Jadi, tanyalah pada diri sendiri,untuk apakah ilmu
yang dikumpulkan jika bukan utk digunakan dan boleh digunakan?

alkisah adalah si aki ni naik bas dari kudat p kk. laju sudah tu bas basar jalan, dalam perjalanan tiba2 ada 1 lalat ni hingap2 di muka si aki.. mula2 si aki kasi halau2 lagi kunun ni lalat.. tapi osurilog juga ni lalat p sako tangan, muka si aki... x tahan sudah si aki.. dia tangkap ni lalat n simpan dalam dia punya tangan sampai d kk.. sampai d kk, si aki pun turun dari bas..dia kasi kuar tu lalat, dia cabut semua sayap tu lalat pas tu dia ckp... hah koto koira... rasala ko jalan kaki blk KUDAT...
